Think this is just a hoax? Think again.
April 8, 2005 -- The following are actual emails that one of our
own encountered 12 hours after posting information on his lost
dog. He wasted a day and a half following this
"so-called" lead.
Scammer: Hello, I saw your advert that you lost
your pet. I am a trucker and I found many pet which were lost but
they are with. But I don't know which exactly pet you are looking
for. So I will want you to get back to me with:
1. Pet name
2. Species
3. Search date
4. Search area
5. Age when he/she was lost
6. Primary breed
7. Secondary breed
8. Primary color
9. Secondary color
10. Pattern
11. Gender
12. Pics of pet
So I will want you to get back to me a.s.a.p. as also I want to
help you.....
Sally: Hi, what is your phone number?
Scammer: Thanks for the mail, as at now my phone
has a little problem. so i will want you to know that as soon has
i recover my phone back i will email you my phone number. so i will
want you to give me the details i requested from you concerning
the pet.
Sally: What web site did you see the advert on?
She is a 4 1/2 yr old pit bull. brown and white. 75 lbs. lost her
yesterday at Eaton Canyon in Altadena. she is friendly. please call
Scammer: Thanks for the mail. actual i found some
pet Eaton Canyon in Altadena. but i will want you to get back to
me with the details and pics of the pet you are looking for.
Sally: Pit Bull. Holly. Red nose pit. white patches
on paw, chest and tail. Brown on body. Yesterday at Eaton Canyon,
10:00 a.m. 75 lbs. Holly was off lead there when she got spooked.
I put up the ad yesterday night. It is my friend Neil's dog. He
is devastated! He called me for help. Holly is very friendly. I
believe he has pictures of the dog. He raised her since she was
a baby. Which site did you see the ad? Please call. Thank you.
(Sally sends the picture of Holly).
Scammer: HOLLY was rescue from the Eaton Canyon
this morning. She has Red nose pit. white patches on paw, chest
and tail. Brown on body. , which makes her very connected to humans.
She is a love! I mean: 75lbs of pure LOVE! She is a baby. The reason
that she stayed in foster care for so long is that she had a kitty
cold that just never wanted to go away! I suspect her to want to
stay with me... :-) But she really needs a home of her own so that
I can continue to rescue! HOLLY, is just the most adorable dog .
Your heart will melt right away! She is playfull, but not too energetic,
just the right amount. She loves dogs of all sizes and other cats.
HOLLY belongs to the rescue group Pets and Pals. She is spayed,
vaccinated, tested leukemia and FIV negative and microchiped. $1000
adoption fee to participate to the surgery, testing and microchipping
cost.
Sally: What exactly is going on here? What is
Pets and Pals?
Scammer: Thanks for the mail. but i will want you
to know that for me to send the dog back to the owner he or she
must pay for the adoption fee.
Sally: How do I know you have the dog? Send me
a picture of her.
Scammer: Thanks for the mail, so i have the dog
with me and also i have email you how i get the dog and also i wish
to send the dog back to the owner and now i have know the owner
so i wish to send it back to you. so you said that her name is holly
and you have send the pics of the dog to me. so i will want you
to know that i will send you the holly until you pay my adoption
fee which is $1000. so you will have to send the adoption fee to
my doctor who treated the dog when i found her. Anyway my doctor
is out of the state because he went for a conference in west africa.
so this is my doctor information you will send the money to via
western union money transfer today so that i can send you the dog
today if you need the dog.

As soon as you get the funds sent to the doctor
you will have to email me with the confirmation i mean the western
union details... so i will want you to get back to me now. so that
i will make the necessary arrangement today as soon as you send
the funds to my Doctor, so i will call my son to bring the dog to
your place as soon as you send the money to my Doctor. so hope to
read from you asap.. Thanks for the mail. so i will send you the
pics for the Holly now.
Sally: Send me the picture of Holly
now.
(The Scammer sends the identical picture of Holly
that Sally sent except the background is blank.)
*Holly was found 2 days later at Eaton Canyon
and was reunited with her originial owner.
